Museums Advocacy Day Update

Monday I attended several workshops and learned a great deal how we can update, publicize, reach out, and ways to find funding. There was much learn and much to work on. News releases, Face Book, and You Tube just to name a few. The most important function was networking with other museums across the country.

Today, Tuesday, we were able to meet with our Congressional representatives and Senators. Senator Isakeson’s staff, Congressman Linder, Senator Chamblis’s staff and Congressman Lewis’s staff. We presented each of them with a packet about Duluth Historical Society and the Duluth History Museum. We’re on the map, folks.

Duluth Historical President off to Washington

Judy Wilson, President of the Society, is heading to Washington, DC on Friday, the 19th, to attend the annual National Museum Advocacy Meeting.

During this time, she will be taking classes in Museum management, displays, fund raising and others. She will also be meeting with other museum curators from around the country.

On Tuesday, she will be meeting with our Senators and Congressmen to talk about museums in general AND talk about funding for our Society and Museum.

She will be updating the blog from Washington.

Duluth exhibit explores country’s commanders in chief

From Gwinnett Daily Post – Sun March 14, 2010

DULUTH — The president of the United States holds the highest political office in the country and is one of only two nationally elected federal officers.

An exhibit hosted by the Duluth Historical Society paints a picture of some of the men who have held this esteemed position throughout the nation’s history.

With displays at both the Duluth History Museum and City Hall, the exhibit “The American President” explores the lives of some of the most well-known as well as lesser-known presidents.

“It’s interesting to find out about the ones we don’t hear about all the time,” said Judy Wilson, president of the Duluth Historical Society.

Also included in the exhibit is a display on the first female to vie for the office.

Museum admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children with proceeds benefiting the Duluth Historical Society. Guided tours of the exhibit and museum can be scheduled by calling 770-232-7584.
